The Charlotte 49ers now have a new opponent for the two seasons they will spend as an FCS Independent team.

Old Dominion recently announced that they would not be traveling to Jerry Richardson Stadium in the fall of 2014 to play the Charlotte 49ers. In return, Charlotte officially cut football ties with ODU and cancelled the game scheduled for Nov. 16, 2013 in Norfolk, Va.

To fill the open spot in the 2013 and 2014 schedules, the Charlotte 49ers have announced that they will now travel to James Madison for a game this fall. The Dukes will visit Charlotte for a game in 2014.

The Charlotte 49ers originally did not have a game scheduled for Sept. 21, 2013, but will now be playing the Dukes at 6 p.m. game in Harrisonburg, Va. Because of previously scheduled games by both teams, Nov. 16, 2013 will now be one of the two bye weeks for Charlotte. The 49ers already had a bye week scheduled for Oct. 19, 2013.

The 49ers will host the JMU Dukes on Oct. 25, 2014.

The Charlotte 49ers open their season on Aug. 31, 2013 against Campbell.
