The news came Saturday evening that Whitney Houston had passed away at the Beverly Hilton shortly before she was set to attend a Grammy Awards gala.

Immediately, fans of American singer-actress-model took the interweb to express their gratitude to Houston for sharing her talents about half an hour before the press broke the news.

Houston was the most awarded female performer of all time, winning a total of 415 career awards including two Emmy Awards, 30 Billboard Music Awards, six Grammy Awards and 22 American Music Awards.

According to the Los Angeles Times, investigators are continuing to analyze Houston’s body.

Houston’s long and inspiring career peaked in the mid 80’s to the late 90’s.

When the news came Saturday night, CNN, MSNBC and Fox News all broke away from their regular scheduled programming to show coverage of Houston’s passing. MTV and VH1 also aired a mixture of Houston’s classic musical performances and news updates.

Houston’s ex-husband Bobby Brown performed in Mississippi mere hours after Houston’s death.

The audience reportedly witnessed Brown blow kisses skyward, saying “I love you Whitney” throughout the concert.

It’s true that Houston had a long, troubled history with drugs (marijuana and cocaine among others) and alcohol which correlated with plummeting record sales.

Although it is unknown what Houston was doing leading up to her death, investigators have found no reason to believe drugs or alcohol were involved.

One of Houston’s bodyguards founds Houston cold and with her head under water in her bathtub on Saturday.

Currently, investigators are exploring the possibility of a simple drowning as the cause.

Musicians like Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson and Celine Dion owe a great deal of debt to the Queen of Pop who either laid the foundation for their career or revived it.

In fact when singers Christina Aguilera and Mariah Carey debuted, many listeners thought their music to be that of Houston.

Both Jennifer Hudson and Chaka Khan immediately agreed to do a tribute to the star at the 54th annual Grammy Awards which aired the following night. Hudson has long cited Whitney Huston as an inspiration. And Houston’s musical career began when she performed backup for Chaka Khan in her teens.

Whitney Houston not only redefined what it meant to be a female artist in America, but she inspired many of the most talented current female artist in the industry.
