2017 Emmy Nominations Released

With "Game of Thrones" out of the running, this year's Emmy nominations play it safe, but with a few new faces mixed in

| July 13, 2017

The medium of television and the way viewers consume it has drastically changed over the past few years, but most people can agree that the quality of the shows has increased. In this “Golden Age of Television,” there are literally hundreds of series and performers, but very few actually receive recognition when Emmy season rolls around. On July 13, the Television Academy released the list of nominations for the 2017 awards and while there are a few surprises, it is pretty clear that Emmy voters like to play it safe. Several new shows such as “The Crown,” “This Is Us” and “The Handmaid’s Tale” racked up nominations, but several underrated mainstays such as “Bates Motel” and “The Leftovers” were snubbed after strong final seasons.
