The Charlotte 49ers softball team traveled down to the Sunshine State to compete in the Citrus Classic. The 49ers opened the tournament dropping both games on the Friday. They first faced a No. 12 ranked James Madison team, falling 8-1. Then they couldn’t get anything going in the second game of the day, losing 9-0.

With the two losses under their belt, Charlotte became 13-6 on the season. They take the diamond again for two more games on Saturday, then conclude their time in Florida on Sunday.

Game one:

Haley Wiseman started in the circle for her 12th time this season. JMU opened the game by posting six runs in the top of the first inning, then added two more runs in the third inning after a home run.

Alison Green came in for relief in the fourth inning, allowing only one hit and no runs during her four-inning campaign.

The 49ers posted their only run in the fifth after Haley Pace recorded an RBI double. The double was Pace’s 13th extra base hit so far this season. Kiersten Berrier, Meredith Harris and Spenser Gray also recorded a hit in the 8-1 loss.

Game two:

Alison Green looked to carry the momentum from her stellar relief performance from game one into the second game of the day as she started for the Niners.

A five-run second inning coupled with one run from the first gave Boston College an early 6-0 lead over Charlotte. Haley Wiseman came in for relief, throwing 4.2 innings and striking out six Eagles.

Once again Berrier, Gray and Pace all contributed a hit to the 49ers’ offensive campaign, but none crossed the plate leading to a 9-0 loss.
