Charlotte was unable to bring home a win as they fell to Middle Tennessee Saturday 70-55 in Murfreesboro. The 49ers’ (11-13, 5-8 C-USA) Austin Ajukwa had a career-high 12 rebounds, however MTSU (22-4, 12-1 C-USA) won the battle of the boards 41-35.

Charlotte recorded 30 of their 55 points in the paint, thanks to the help of freshman Najee Garvin and sophomore Jon Davis who both chipped in 13 points. Middle Tennessee had three players in double figures, capped off by JaCorey Williams with 21.

The 49ers came out ready to play, scoring 12 of the first 16 points. Charlotte held their lead for six and a half minutes before Middle Tennessee tied it up at 18 all. After a 6-0 run from MTSU, the Blue Raiders lead 26-20. Their lead was extended to 33-24 at the conclusion of the first half.

With just under five minutes gone in the second half the Blue Raiders held a 10-point lead. Charlotte fought back, cutting the lead down to 41-35, however that’s the closest the 49ers would get to Middle Tennessee and the Blue Raiders ran away with the contest finishing with a 453 field goal percentage.

The Niners close out their three-game road trip Saturday when they square up against Old Dominion in Norfolk, Virginia at 7 p.m.
