SGA update: eight new student senators sworn into office

The UNC Charlotte Student Government Association (SGA) held their first weekly student senate legislative meeting of the year Aug. 25. Legislative meetings take place every Thursday at 5 p.m. in the Student Union Room 200. These meetings are open to students and there are seats available for spectators to watch.

Confirmation of new senators

Student Body Vice President and Leader of the Senate Carrie Nowell swore in eight new senators into office.

Nowell pointed out updates on the SGA website. She also introduced her segment The Scoop that will be published weekly on NinerTimes.com.

Breaking the ice with SGA

Senators will be outside of Prospector Sept. 12 to listen to concerns and suggestions from students and to hear what they would like to see change at UNC Charlotte.

New student organizations

Five new student organizations have been approved by the senate. These organizations include ISACA, whose purpose is to expand recognition of IT governance.

Another new student organization, OWASP@UNCC, plans to focus on the information security field.

The Senate also approved Filipino American Student Union, Performing Upstanding Lasting Service with Equity (PULSE), Society of Collegiate Leadership and Achievement (SCLA).
