This is the first installment of a weekly Niner Times online column with brief updates and recaps from Student Body President Fahn Darkor, the Executive Branch, the Student Senate and the Judicial Board. This initiative is one of the Student Government Association’s (SGA) many new strategies to help the Student Body stay in the loop about what’s going on in Student Government and around campus. We are always looking to improve and welcome your feedback at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Last week, Darkor addressed the first group of incoming students and their family members at SOAR. Throughout the summer he will continue to speak at orientation and join representatives from all three branches at an SGA information table during Niner Nights.
Darkor will be meeting with representatives from Niner Nation Gold to brainstorm year long strategies for promoting Charlotte 49ers athletic events and spreading school spirit June 13.
We believe partnering with Niner Nation Gold will help us achieve our platform goal of building a stronger sense of community for UNC Charlotte.
On June 14, Darkor and Betty Doster, special assistant to the chancellor for constituent relations will travel to Raleigh for the UNC System’s University Day.
In the morning, Darkor and other UNC System student body presidents will hear remarks from the UNC Board of Governors, UNC system President Margaret Spellings and North Carolina legislators. In the afternoon, Darkor and members of the Board of Trustees will meet with Charlotte regional legislators.
The Chancellor has approved a student’s suggestion to create a time capsule to place in the new Belk Plaza. Darkor and I will be meeting with the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Dr. Arthur Jackson and student affairs staff to suggest potential contents of the capsule and its location. We welcome any student suggestions via email.
