Tennis wins big at Think Pink match

Friday, April 8, the 49ers tennis programs and Zeta Tau Alpha hosted their Think Pink match to support breast cancer education and awareness.

The (11-5) Charlotte 49ers mens tennis team picked up a 5-2 win over visiting Appalachian State for their fifth straight win. Jordi Massalle Ferrer picked up another historical win in both singles and doubles with his 14th and 18th wins of the season.

The guys earned a big point from the doubles spot, winning two out of the three matches. The duo of Sam Rice and Sam Brazil dominated at the number three spot, winning 6-4. Charlotte’s Vikram Hundal and Massalle Ferrer had a tight match ultimately going their way 7-6 (7-4).

In a match between in-state rivals, Charlotte women’s tennis team defeated the Davidson Wildcats, 5-2. This marked the women’s third consecutive home win and second of the week.

The 49ers entered singles action with a one-point advantage after picking up doubles wins on courts one and three. Senior Tyler Baker and junior Macy Vonderschmidt defeated Jenna Brunner and Ava Todd 6-2.

Baker set the tone for Charlotte in singles, leading off with a double bagel 6-0, 6-0 win over Davidson’s Brunner. Freshman Tai Martin clinched the win in a commanding 6-2, 6-3 victory.
