UNC Charlotte student reports rape from nearly one month ago

| March 2, 2012

Thursday, March 1, a UNC Charlotte student reported a rape to Police and Public Safety that she says took place Feb. 10, in Spruce Hall.  The suspect is not a student of the university.

“At this time the victim does not want to press charges; however, she did feel that the incident should be reported to police.  We have taken a report and obtained a detailed statement from the victim.  We will retain this information should she wish to pursue charges in the future.  This case is in no way connected to the other alleged rape that was recently reported,” said Lt. Josh Huffman of campus police.

Unlike the rape reported earlier this week neither the victim or suspect are known to be under the influence of any alcohol or substance at the time of the event.  According to the victim the suspect forced her to have sex with him against her will.

There are currently no updates on the rape reported this past Sunday, Feb. 26, as the campus police are still working with a Charlotte district attorney to determine how to proceed.
